The Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary began in 1909 as a small group of local women donating their services to perform various tasks at the local hospital.

Over the years the organization and functions of the Auxiliary progressed and expanded from in-hospital help and small fund raising events to become a vibrant community entity with over 200 members that operates various health care associated programs.

Bake sales and bazaars have given way to one of the best thrift stores on the island as well as a well stocked gift shop. 

With the reduction of our local hospital from a full service facility to a community health care centre offering limited service the focus on where our funds are directed has also changed.   Significant donations of equipment funding are made to island hospitals now serving Ladysmith citizens.  Numerous other entities providing health care services to our community also benefit from our funding.
